Group 5 is hosting a Group-level Cadet Competition / practice on 28 May at Seymour Johnson AFB to help teams get ready for the Wing competition in August. If your Group is not planning to have a competition, you are invited to attend the Group 5 event.
This will be a scaled down version of the Wing competition (planned for mid-August) and will be done in a single day. The planned events as of now are:
- Indoor posting
- Outdoor posting
- Uniform inspection
- Written exam
This will be more of a practice than an actual competition although we will keep score and will hopefully have trophies to hand out as well. I say that is it more of a practice because it is not a qualifier for the Wing competition. Your team will be able to compete in the Wing competition regardless of where they place in the Group competition. It will be run exactly like the Wing competition so it will be a great opportunity to see what that is like.
The overall goals of this competition are:
- Prepare teams to compete at Wing and beyond
- Build confidence in the teams
- Promote Color Guard throughout the Wing
- Encourage Squadrons to participate in Group/Wing events
The goal is for each of you to field at least one team. If you need Color Guard equipment, we can help with that so do not let a lack of equipment keep you from fielding a team. If you have any questions please let me know. I would also like to plan a time to come and visit your squadron to get to know all of you and assist in getting a Color Guard program started for you, if needed. Thank you.
