NCWG Cadet Programs Leadership Symposium
1. General. The North Carolina Wing is hosting a Cadet Programs Leadership Symposium from 12 August 2016 to 14 August 2016 at the North Carolina Wing Headquarters at 3520 Alamance Road, Burlington, NC 27215. The intent of this event is to conduct training for the senior member and cadet leaders of NCWG. The signature event of the weekend is two open forums between seniors and cadets to share best practices. This will allow for better inter-squadron communication within the wing and for overall growth of our cadet program.
2. Distribution. Squadron Commanders, Deputy Commanders for Seniors, Deputy Commanders for Cadets, and Cadet Commanders are requested to relay this information to senior members and cadets in their squadron.
3. Schools Offered. There will be three different schools offered as part of the Cadet Programs Leadership Symposium: Training Leaders of Cadets (TLC), Intermediate Training Leaders of Cadets (ITLC), and a Cadet Commanders Course (CCS). Both TLC and ITLC will each be offered Saturday and Sunday. Senior members are encouraged to attend both courses and/or instruct, as appropriate per their experience level. The CCS will be conducted Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon.
4. Content of the Schools. TLC has been completely revamped by NHQ and is now only a one day course with online modules. ITLC is a brand-new course from NHQ and is also one day long. CCS is new to NCWG and is intended to help new and current cadet commanders better run their units and work with senior members.
a. Training Leaders of Cadets is designed for current and future cadet programs officers. It trains senior members on traits of cadet life, cadet program elements, and the role of a cadet programs officer.
b. Intermediate Training Leaders of Cadets is designed for current cadet programs officers and/or graduates of Training Leaders of Cadets. It provides refresher and update training, explains basic principles of youth development, and methods of indirect leadership.
c. Cadet Commanders Course is designed for current and future squadron cadet commanders. It trains cadets on leadership principles, the mechanics of running a squadron, and event planning.
5. Application. Senior member applicants must submit a CAPF 17, signed by their squadron commander, and a CAPF 161 to Maj Barry Feinstein at bfeinstein6@gmail.com. Cadet applicants must submit a CAPF 31, signed by their parents and squadron commander, and a CAPF 161 to Maj Barry Feinstein at bfeinstein6@gmail.com. The CAPF 17/31 must include a valid e-mail address. Student applications are due by 22 July 2016.
6. Cost. There is no cost for senior members, however it is requested that TLC and ITLC students bring their own food in order to conduct a “working lunch” in order to end the day as early as possible. The cost for CCS students is $25. This will cover five meals during the weekend.
7. Senior Member Staff. Any senior member desiring to serve as a course director or instructor for TLC, ITLC, or CCS should email Maj Barry Feinstein at bfeinstein6@gmail.com. Senior staff can attend one or both days as instructors or students. TLC and ITLC instructors must be graduates of TLC. It is preferable that CCS instructors are prior cadet commanders or prior/current deputy commanders for cadets. Those interested in course director positions should apply by 23 May 2016. Instructors are requested to apply by 22 July 2016.
8. Cadet Staff. Any cadet that is interested in serving as the Cadet Commander, Cadet Executive Officer, or on cadet instructor staff of the CCS should email Maj Barry Feinstein at bfeinstein6@gmail.com with a CAP resume and an ordered list of requested positions. Those interested in Cadet Commander or Cadet Executive Officer should apply by 23 May 2016.
