11/18/2013––It has been said that you can measure the success of an organization by the attendance of its members at an activity that is not mandatory. If that is the benchmark, this weekend’s attendance at this year’s pig pickin is a testament to the success of the North Carolina Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. This Saturday, over 150 members, cadets and their families drove to Burlington, North Carolina, the North Carolina Wing Headquarters to celebrate another great year of service to the Civil Air Patrol, in support of its mission as the auxiliary branch of the United States Air Force.

Kathy Gaddy, the Wing’s Administrator stated that this year’s attendance was “the largest ever.” The Wing event brought attendees from all over the state including appearances by the Middle East Region’s Commander, Col. Larry Ragland, several group commanders, many squadron commanders and members, cadets and their families. Col. Ragland stated, “I look forward to this event every year. Everyone loves BBQ and it’s a great opportunity to just catch up with everyone including family members.”

Col. David Crawford, the wing commander offered that each member and cadet gives countless hours to the Civil Air Patrol each year, and “without the support of family members, it wouldn't be possible.” Crawford said “That’s why we hold this event every year; to thank all the members and cadets, but especially to thank the families who willingly support each of their family members who contribute to this organization. Without them (the family members) it wouldn't be possible to do all we do year in and year out.” Both Col. Crawford and Col Ragland are expecting 2014 to be a great year for the North Carolina Wing, and the Civil Air Patrol in general.
