NCEM SAREX

3/16/2014––Cadets and Seniors Members from the North Carolina Wing including; Burlington, Winston Salem, Raleigh Wake, and Sugar Valley Squadrons, worked this past weekend March 8th – 9th with other members of North Carolina Emergency Management, State Forestry Service, Stokes County EM, American Red Cross, and many other departments to successfully complete a Missing Person Search Exercise at Hanging Rock State Park. Teams arrived on Saturday and immediately began receiving mission briefings and tasking’s. Over the course of 13 hours on Saturday CAP Ground Teams ran 12 search sorties covering well over 35 miles of trails on the mountain. Air Crews from Winston Salem aided in the search efforts as well as mission base staff at Winston Salem.

NC Wing Vice Commander Lt Col Andy Wiggs points out “Civil Air Patrol teams made up 30 of the 40 searchers on the mountain. “ “These teams did an incredible job, not only did they show these local EM members what the Civil Air Patrol can do, they helped solidify what the State EM folks already knew.” Wiggs added. “I heard nothing but good things from everyone I spoke to about our group.” MoAna Compton-Dunn of the American Red Cross added “I have heard nothing but great things about these cadets from my staff. Their demeanor is so professional and their all so well mannered, it was a pleasure to work with them.”

With the success of this SAREX the Wing looks forward the NCEM Eastern Branch SAREX on March 28-30th.
