Fayetteville Squadron provides Color Guard Detail

for local American Indoor Football League Team

5/8/2014––On Friday, April 11, 2014, The Fayetteville Composite Squadron (NC-007) Color Guard team completed a standard detail during the opening ceremony at the American Indoor Football (AIF) game between the local Cape Fear Heroes and the Baltimore Mariners at the Cumberland Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, NC.

The Squadron Commander, Lt. Col. William Ryan, arranged for the detail.

During the National Anthem, the Color Guard squad marched the flags out onto the field to the 25-yard line. The squad consisted of four cadets, including C/CMSGT Michael T. Young, Jr. carrying the American flag, C/MSGT Dante O. Petersen carrying the squadron flag, C/SSGT Kevin M. Atkins as the Right Rifleman, and C/Airman 1st Class Jameel T. Holmes as the Left Rifleman. Other members of the squad attending the ceremony were Cadet Officer in Charge Matthew A. Cordes, Deputy Commander, Cadets, Capt. Donald P. DeGarmo IV, and his wife, 1st Lt. Malissa L. DeGarmo. Capt. DeGarmo stated this was a "great experience for the cadets to get in front of others, to show their drill skills, and to represent the Civil Air Patrol and the military."

The color guard team made such an impression, they been invited to come back and be a part of the opening ceremony for the Cape Fear Heroes' game on Saturday, May 17th.
