Award recognizes leadership

12/4/2014––C/2nd Lt Hazen David Ham of the Orange County Composite Squadron received the prestigious Billy Mitchell Award on December 4, 2014.  The Award was presented by Capt Pete Wehr, Commander of the Squadron, James Groves, Director of Orange County Emergency Services, and Col Joe Javorski, U.S. Air Force.

The Billy Mitchell Award is given in honor of Maj Gen William "Billy" Mitchell, former Deputy Chief of the Army Air Service and military aviation visionary.  In order to earn this award, cadets must pass a series of leadership, aerospace and physical fitness tests and attend character development training for each achievement from Cadet Airman Basic through Cadet Chief Master Sergeant.  Only 15% of Civil Air Patrol cadets achieve the Mitchell Award.

The Orange County Composite Squadron meets weekly on Thursdays from 7-9 PM at the Emergency Management Center, 510 Meadowlands Dr., Hillsborough, NC.  If you are interested in learning more about Civil Air Patrol, contact CAP at: OrangeCountyCAP@gmail.com.
