NC Wing Conducts Cadet and Senior Leadership Training

Great attendance at Cadet Leadership Symposium

8/14/2016–BURLINGTON, NC–On 12-14 August, 2016, the NC Wing Cadet Programs staff conducted its first Cadet Programs Leadership Symposium (CPLS).  The purpose of this event was to conduct high-level cadet programs training for the members of NC and SC wings.This is the first time that NC wing conducted the new Training Leaders of Cadets-Basic and Training Leaders of Cadets -Intermediate courses, each of which have been designed for a single day.   TLC-Basic is designed for current and future cadet programs officers.  It trains senior members on traits of cadet life, cadet program elements, and the role of a cadet programs officer.TLC- Intermediate is designed for current cadet programs officers.  It provides refresher and update training, explains basic principles of youth development, and methods of indirect leadership.  Additionally, highly experienced cadets and senior members designed a brand-new curriculum specifically designed for cadet commanders - Cadet Commanders School.  CCS is intended to help new and current cadet commanders better run their units and work with senior members.  

1st Lt Kate Maxfield, NC Wing Director of Cadet Programs, was ecstatic about the turnout. “I am so pleased we had 53 participants at this event.  It truly shows the level of progress NC has made in cadet programs in the last few months.”  Asked about keys for success in the classroom-heavy CCS, C/CMSgt Jeb Ayscue said, “Just keep calm and obtain the knowledge.”  Students had approximately 24 hours of total instruction over three days and were required to take diligent notes. 1st Lt Hausner, a student at both TLC-Basic and TLC-Intermediate, remarked, “I took this class to get a better understanding of my role as a squadron commander and to network with other seniors.”  NCWG Cadet Programs staff wants to meet each and every cadet programs officer and provide them with any and all support needed as they serve our cadets. 
 
All in all, the weekend was a fantastic success, with 17 TLC-Basic students, 22 TLC-Intermediate students, 19 CCS students, and 11 staff members, for a total of 53 CAP members over the course of the weekend.
 
NCWG Cadet Programs is looking to conduct another event in the springtime.
