Spring break trip is educational and fun for all

4/4/2017––On 22-26 March 2017, 17 Cadets and 5 Senior Members from the Orange County Composite Squadron embarked on a spring break trip to Washington D.C. During the visit, the squadron members took many of the traditional tours such as the U.S. Capitol Building, the Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, the White House, the Air & Space Museum at the UDVAR-HAZY Center, Arlington National Cemetery, Joint Base Andrews and the National Museum of the Marine Corps.

At the White House, the squadron had a private tour of the East Wing, the Truman Bowling Alley and the Eisenhower Executive Building. This was the highlight of the whole trip! During the tour, the cadets and senior members saw and met many government personnel. They also enjoyed an amazing lunch provided by the Navy Mess Hall, including an official Presidential Cake displaying the Presidential Seal.

The squadron also enjoyed some fantastic downtime with a fellow CAP cadet, C/CMSgt Lucas Todd and his family. Cadet Todd transferred from the Orange County Comp Squadron to the DC-053 squadron last year but his ties to the NCWG remain strong. To celebrate the visit, Mr. Charles Todd made an amazing Orange County Composite Squadron cake with the squadron emblem depicted perfectly atop the cake. The Todd’s also shared their hospitality with delicious BBQ and fixins’.

There were many memorable highlights for each person on the trip. E.g., the Changing of the Guard at Arlington was incredibly impressive and the White House experience will never be forgotten. Many of the cadets were inspired towards a career path while in D.C. The trip could not have been more perfect or rewarding.
