Second Annual CPLS Held at Wing HQ

6/6/2017––On 29-30 April 2017, the NC Wing Cadet Programs staff conducted the second annual Cadet Programs Leadership Symposium (CPLS). Cadets from NC, VA and SC participated in the Cadet Commanders School. The school provides new and current cadet commanders with the tools they need to run their units more efficiently. Additionally, the program teaches cadet commanders how to work in concert with the senior members of their respective squadrons.

Training our future cadet leaders were Lt Col Karl Katterjohn, Maj Barry Feinstein, 1st Lt Kate Maxfield, 1st Lt Danielle Bullock and Capt Jared Mohler. Cadet instructors were C/Maj Kate Fitzpatrick, C/Capt Arthur Coburn and C/1st Lt Mason Berger.

Simultaneously with the cadet training, the NC Wing conducted the Training Leaders of Cadets (TLC) Basic and TLC Intermediate courses. TLC-Basic is designed for current and future cadet programs officers. The course trains senior members on traits of cadet life, cadet program elements, and the role of a cadet programs officer. TLC-Intermediate is designed for current cadet programs officers. It provides refresher training, explains basic principles of youth development, and methods of indirect leadership.

Training our current and future Cadet Programs' officers were: Lt Col Karl Katterjohn, Maj Barry Feinstein, Capt Jared Mohler, 1st Lt Roger Ayscue, 1st Lt Bullock, 1st Lt Beth Hausner and 1st Lt Kate Maxfield.

The weekend was a resounding success, with 11 TLC-Basic students, 12 TLC-Intermediate students, 19 CCS students, and 10 staff members.

The NCWG Commander, Col R. Jason Bailey, attended the CPLS graduation on Sunday. He presented Maj Feinstein with the Meritorious Service Award for outstanding duty performance as the NCWG Assistant Director of Cadet Programs.
