NC-170 and NC-023 co-host successful educational event

4/27/2019––On the weekend of 13-14 April 2019, the Brunswick County Composite Squadron and the Cape Fear Composite Squadron jointly hosted a Civil Air Patrol (CAP) professional development weekend. The location was the South Brunswick Middle School in Southport, NC.

A total of nineteen students completed either the Squadron Leadership School (SLS), the Corporate Learning Course (CLC) or the Unit Commander’s Course (UCC) over the two day period. These students are now one step closer to completing their next level of Professional Development.

SLS provides a basic understanding of CAP operations at the squadron level and how those operations affect CAP's national missions. CLC discusses the relationship the CAP squadron has with the next level of command, the wing and wing-level operations. The objective of UCC is to build a cadre of well-trained officers who are prepared to lead and manage at the squadron level.

The hosting squadrons invited their neighbors to the south, the Grand Strand Composite Squadron in South Carolina, to attend the training. And four members from the MAR-SC-114 squadron joined the training. Down on the coast it is a long distance for members to travel to some of the inland training and this invitation made it convenient for the South Carolina members to attend the courses. No Borders!

The course directors were: SLS - Capt Mark Shell, CLC - Capt Rich Rudnicki, and UCC - Maj Kathy Nicholas.

The organizers greatly appreciate and were fortunate that instructors from different squadrons, group commanders, and Wing staff gave their time and talents to make this such a highly successful weekend.Â
