Over 105 members volunteer at thrilling Seymour Johnson AFB event

5/1/2019––The North Carolina Wing’s assistance with the 2019 Wings Over Wayne Air Show was an outstanding success! Over 105 cadets and senior members showed up at Seymour Johnson AFB ready to support the U.S. Air Force (USAF) in one of the biggest airshows in the country.

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) volunteers were credited with providing over half the workers that made this air show happen.

The first day started off with the arrival on Friday of cadets and senior members from around the wing. Motivated and ready to work, they quickly got organized and put up their tents, regardless of the strong winds that made it a challenge. Next, with the help of the great Senior Staff, they transferred over by van to the main ramp and enjoyed an awesome Hangar Party.  The Hangar Party featured a wide array of aircraft as static displays or flying, topped off by breathtaking nighttime aerial demonstrations. During this evening, the cadets were provided with a great dinner of pulled pork and BBQ chicken by the USAF - which they enjoyed wholeheartedly.

Saturday morning began for cadets at 0530 with a hearty breakfast, a morning briefing, and then they went straight to work. Cadets at the recruiting booth worked hard talking with visitors and raising awareness for CAP missions, its core values, and all CAP has to offer. Cadets working in parking worked tirelessly with USAF Security Forces to organize traffic and direct people to where to go in order to enjoy the show. The event Support Staff was up and about bringing supplies around the base, capturing the event in photos and videos, and being always ready to take up new challenges that arose. The Line Staff worked with our cadets to lead groups and to accomplish any task that was thrown at them. All this would not have happened without our vigilant Executive Staff who organized everything (mostly behind the scenes) and deserve to be recognized for making this an extremely successful event. Everyone finished the day off with a mouth-watering meal graciously donated by FireHouse Subs.

On Sunday, despite battling the heat, everyone showed the same dedication and work ethic they had on Saturday. At the end, the NC Wing was recognized for all their hard work and were rewarded with the opportunity to meet the USAF Thunderbirds!

At the end of the thrilling weekend, everyone went home with a lot of experience, valuable lessons, and an event to remember in our wonderful Wing!
