7/7/2019––Cadet Chief Master Sergeant Allison Green of Halifax Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol (CAP) was recently granted the opportunity of a lifetime - a scholarship to attend the Col Roland Butler Powered Flight Academy in Camden South Carolina!

Green was awarded a full scholarship to attend the week-long flight academy sponsored by CAP which ran from 29 June to 7 July 2019. She was one of twenty-four cadets selected from across CAP's Mid-Atlantic Region who received ground training and hands-on flight training for just over a week at the academy.

“I learned how to handle many different emergency procedures such as how to put out an engine fire while in flight and how to handle the plane on my own. Learning how to maneuver the plane and how to recover from a stall will help me pass the check-ride portion of earning my pilot's license,” said C/CMSgt Green.

Maj Anthony B. Green, C/CMSgt Green’s father added, "Since becoming a pilot myself in 2009, I’ve hoped at least one of my girls would become a pilot, too. I’m very proud of Allison for her successful completion of this academy and to see the love for flying she has. I’m grateful for all the opportunities that CAP has to offer the cadets and the assistance programs to help make them happen. I would like to thank all CAP members involved with this powered flight academy and other CAP activities across the country helping promote aviation and our military values to the upcoming generations.”

This flight training academy is one of many efforts by CAP to help with the current pilot shortage. Cadet Green currently serves as the Flight Commander of her fellow cadets in the Halifax Composite Squadron, located in Halifax County, NC.  She was awarded her pre-solo wings on Sunday, 7 July 2019, at the Flight Academy.

Many congratulations to C/CMSgt Green as she continues her flight training and other CAP activities.
