Commander’s Commentary—September 2018

Col Robert J Bailey

CAP Safety Pledge

As a Civil Air Patrol member I pledge to promote an uncompromising safety environment for myself and others, and to prevent the loss of, or damage to Civil Air Patrol assets entrusted to me. I will perform all my activities in a professional and safe manner, and will hold myself accountable for my actions in all of our Missions for America.

Members of NCWG,

As we brace for Hurricane Florence and subsequent flooding, I wanted to take a moment and pass along the thoughts and prayers expressed by many other Wings throughout the country.  Of course all of the Wings in the Middle East Region are preparing alongside of us and SCWG to meet any requests of NCEM or SC to support the citizens of North Carolina and South Carolina.  I have heard from the Commanders from every MER Wing, almost every SER Wing, TXWG, CTWG and others.

During Hurricane Matthew we had many members whose homes were in the path of the storm and yet they were out serving.  Many have prepared their own homes and are already out serving during the preparation of this storm.  I cannot adequately put into words the appreciation I have for your efforts.  You emulate the core values, the mission statement of CAP "Supporting America's communities with emergency response, diverse aviation and ground services, youth development, and promotion of air, space, and cyber power" and the CAP vision statement of "Civil Air Patrol, America's Air Force auxiliary, building the nation's finest force of citizen volunteers serving America."  Thank you for all that you do.

Please know that our Wing ES and Unit Commanders as well as their ES officers have been participating in conference calls all week to keep everyone up to date at the local level concerning preparation for the storm and will continue these briefings throughout any recovery efforts that we have in the coming days.  All assets have been secured for protection. However; you are our most important and irreplaceable asset.  Please let us know if you need support during this time.

With respect and appreciation,

R. JASON BAILEY, Colonel, CAP
Commander, North Carolina Wing
