12/20/2016–SALISBURY, NC–On December 17, 2016, coordinated at 12 pm at over 1,100 cemeteries across the world, Wreaths Across America recognized true fallen heroes by placing a wreath on the tombstones of American soldiers. The wreaths were not intended to decorate, but to appreciate the value of each veteran. Each tombstone marks the story of life as a beloved son, daughter, mom, dad, brother, sister and/or spouse.
The mission of Wreaths Across America is to remember our fallen US veterans, honor those who serve, and teach children the value of freedom. For many attending the ceremony, the memories of their loved ones who served were vivid, personal and emotional.
The Patriot Guard Riders, whose mission is to show respect to those who risk their lives for the cause of American freedom by attending memorial services of the fallen and shielding the mourners from potential protesters, sponsored the event. The Rowan Honor Guard Firing Party presented the customary 21 gun salute.
Cadets of the Iredell Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol provided the Color Guard and Flag Presentation for the commemoration at the Salisbury National Cemetery.
